Awanelegation from Baluchistan Visits Barani Livestock Production Research Institute, Kheri Murat
Kheri Murat, Potohar — A high-level delegation of 25 participants from the Government of Baluchistan, including Mr. Naveed Ahmad, Director Planning & Coordination, PDMA Baluchistan, visited the Barani Livestock Production Research Institute (BLPRI) to observe the institute’s ongoing research and management practices in livestock and rangeland resources. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Murtaza Ali Tipu, Director BLPRI, who provided a comprehensive overview of the institute’s facilities, research programs, and operational activities.
The visit, coordinated by Jalal Hayat Khan, Senior Scientific Officer, Rangeland Research Institute NARC (PARC), was joined by Dr. Khalid Rafiq, Director, Range Research Institute (RRI), NARC Islamabad, and supported by experts from FAO Pakistan, including Dr. Faizul Bari, Imtiaz Ahmad (Capacity Development Coordinator), and Junaid Hafeez (Partnership Support Officer).
Mr. Asad Abbas Khan, Research Officer (Range Management), highlighted key range management activities, including rangeland assessment, rotational grazing, forage development, and soil and water conservation. Dr. Saba Anwar, Farm Superintendent, along with Dr. Waseem and Dr. Saqib Siddiqui (Veterinary Officers), explained livestock management practices, including breeding, nutrition, health care, and proximate analysis of concentrates and range fodder.
The discussions focused on Integrated Rangeland Resources Management in the Kheri Murat–Potohar region, emphasizing sustainable use of indigenous livestock breeds, including Dhanni cattle, Salt Range sheep, local hairy goats, and hilly camels, in line with international best practices. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between provincial and national authorities, FAO, and BLPRI for sustainable livestock and rangeland development in Pakistan.
